Drinking water is important
From chasing kids and keeping up with business meetings to running errands and seeing friends, it’s easy to forget about some of the simple things you need each day – like staying hydrated.
Water makes up more than half of your body weight, and without the right amount, your body can’t work its best. Good hydration supports the body’s immune system, helps skin health, keeps our mind sharp and our days productive.
Every day, the average person should drink between 72 and 96 oz. of water – or roughly 2-3 liters – more if you’re exercising heavily. Drinking enough water may seem simple, but if you’re always running from one project or appointment to the next, it can be easy to overlook. And sometimes plain water just isn’t appealing.
We’ve got some tips to make staying hydrated a little easier and a little more enjoyable.
Change your daily habits
Avoid getting caught with that parched feeling when there’s nothing to soothe it by being proactive about hydration at more convenient times.
Make it a habit to drink a glass of water first thing in the morning and before every meal. You can even set a timer to ensure you take a break at the same time each day to get a glass of water. The more you drink at regular, convenient times, the less likely you’ll be desperate for it when you’re out and about.
Buy a new reusable water bottle
Throw away that tired, leaky, faded water bottle and get yourself a snazzy one that you will find joy filling up and drinking from, one that you’ll want to take with you everywhere. Some people love them so much they call them emotional support water bottles!
Invest in something that will last and you can help your hydration while also being kind to the environment. Stainless steel is always a solid choice because it’s durable and a breeze to clean. The insulated bottles or cups are great, too, because your drink stays nice and cold. When choosing, consider whether it fits in the cup holders in your vehicle or on your gym equipment. (Here are a few to consider.)
You can even go high-tech and get a smart water bottle that connects to an app to track your daily water intake. Whatever you select, make it something you never leave home without, like your keys or phone, and you’ll always have a source of hydration at the ready.
Make water inviting with mix-ins
We get it. Water can be boring. Thankfully there are myriad options for adding a little flavor to the experience so it’s not so mundane. Adding sliced lemons, limes or cucumbers to your water bottle before you leave the house will infuse it with refreshing flavor all day long, bringing the experience up a notch.
There are also several flavorful mix-ins that come in convenient, single-serve packets or tubes so you can bring them anywhere and add them to your water glass or water bottle. Many also have added nutrients to support your health.
Nutrilite™ Twist Tubes 2GO™, for example, comes in three flavors, each with nutrients to support your immune health, antioxidant health or joint health.† You can also consider something to replenish electrolytes and vitamins.
XS™ Sports Twist Tubes come in two flavors and have B vitamins and selenium and replaces those crucial electrolytes.† And XS CocoWater Hydration Drink Mix is packed with 12% coconut water, B vitamins and vitamins A, C and E, which are antioxidants. It also comes in individual packets that are easy to toss into your car, bag or backpack.
Choose foods with high water content
About 20 percent of your daily fluid intake comes from the food you eat, so make sure you’re diet includes water-rich selections.
Fat-free milk, cantaloupe, strawberries, watermelon, lettuce, cabbage, celery, spinach, pickles and squash are 90-99% water. Fruit juice, yogurt, apples, grapes, oranges, carrots, broccoli (cooked), pears, pineapple come in close behind at 80-89% water.
Consider these options when you’re packing snacks and lunches for the day to help reach your targeted daily water intake.
Improve your home drinking water
Maybe you don’t like the taste or smell of your tap water at home and that turns you off to water all together.
Consider investing in a quality water filter, like the eSpring™ UV Water Purifier from Amway to remove that barrier. It effectively removes or destroys more than 140 potential impurities and dramatically improves the taste, odor and clarity of the water.
Knowing that will make you much more likely to fill your snazzy new water bottle at home before you leave each day, ensuring you can support your hydration on the go!
