Nutrilite Power of 5: Help Amway fight global childhood malnutrition

Good nutrition is key throughout your life, but it is crucial for young children. From birth to age 5 their bodies are growing and developing, setting the foundation for their future health.

If they don’t receive essential nutrients during that key period, their brains and bodies won’t develop properly, and the opportunity for that development is lost – forever.

A global problem

According to the World Health Organization, 155 million children are malnourished or suffer from stunting, meaning they are too short for their age. The WHO also reports that malnutrition is the underlying cause of death for 3.1 million children each year.

Here’s the good news: Malnutrition is preventable. And, as a leader in nutrition, Amway is in an ideal position to help. The company’s researchers developed Nutrilite™ Little Bits™, a micronutrient supplement for malnourished children age 6 months to 5 years old.

When taken daily with food, the 15 essential vitamins and nutrients in Nutrilite Little Bits can help ensure children get the nutrients they need for their brains and bodies to develop properly.

A solution

Four years ago, the company launched the Nutrilite Power of 5 Campaign to fight childhood malnutrition across the globe. Through partnerships with CARE and local humanitarian groups, Nutrilite Little Bits has become a daily part of the diet for tens of thousands of children in 15 countries. Their families also receive education, food provisions and follow-up assessments – all at no cost.

And it’s working! A clinical study done in Mexico, one of the first where the Power of 5 Campaign was active, showed significant improvements among the participants after six months of daily consumption of Nutrilite Little Bits. Their caregivers said the kids were more active, playful and communicative, too. (You can see more results from all countries in the latest Global Impact Report on the website.)

As part of its goal to serve 500,000 children by the end of 2019, the campaign is expanding its reach through new partnerships in some of the countries where it already operates: Mexico, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Haiti and Honduras.
