California is a place where bikini casual meets super glam, effortless meets inspired, and art, creativity and passion are unlimited.

It’s the perfect inspiration for the latest makeup collection from the Artistry™ beauty brand: The Artistry Studio™ Los Angeles Edition featuring scented perfume pencils and body bars, waterproof eye and brow makeup and camera-ready lips and cheeks.

California is also the perfect inspiration for a luminous, no-makeup look with a beautiful bold lip that walks the line between the chill style of the coast and the glamour of the red carpet. Artistry Beauty Squad member Mimi Johnson is going to show you how to get it using some of the latest Artistry Studio products.

“Matte lipstick is a fun, on-trend look, and if done right it can be absolutely stunning,” Mimi said. “Create a natural luminous skin look, and you’ll have a sheer no makeup look with a beautiful bold lip.”

Prepare your skin

Run through your regular skin prep routine before you apply any makeup. For Mimi, that included toning, priming and exfoliating before using the Artistry Studio™ 2-in-1 Perfecting Primer in the Glow finish and Artistry Hydra-V™ Sheer Weightless Foundation. Here is her skin prep product line up:

  • Artistry Studio™ Rosé All Day Anti-Acne Toner + Pore Refresher 1% Salicylic Acid Treatment
  • Artistry Studio™ Hydro-Prime Light Hydrator + Primer
  • Artistry Studio™ Pampered Pout Lip Balm + Overnight Mask
  • Artistry Studio™ 2 in 1 Perfecting Glow Primer
  • Artistry Hydra–V™ Sheer Weightless Foundation

Gather your makeup

Next, Mimi chose some favorite products from previous Artistry Studio collections and combined them with some of the superstars from the Artistry Studio L.A. collection. Here’s what you’ll need to follow along and get that no-makeup look with the perfect pop of color:

  • Artistry Studio™ Power Brow Pen – Ginza Chai Latte
  • Artistry™ Automatic EyeBrow Pencil
  • Artistry Studio™ Pacific Proof Eye Shadow Cream – L.A. Sunset
  • Artistry Signature Color™ Longwearing Eye Pencil – Black
  • Artistry Studio™ Mascara Base Primer
  • Artistry Studio™ Lash Boosting 3-in-1 Mascara
  • Artistry Studio™ Cheek & Lip Duo – Polaris Pink
  • Artistry Studio™ Lights, Camera, Face Stick
  • Artistry Studio™ Light Up Silky Matte Lip Color – Cherry Red

Create the perfect brow

“We want to keep our brows looking as natural as possible for this look, so I’m going to use the automatic brow pencil and the power brow pen,” Mimi said. “It’s the perfect combination for the perfect brow.”

Start with the spoolie side of the Artistry Automatic EyeBrow Pencil and brush in the direction that you want the hairs to lay. Switch the pencil side and start lightly stroking the hair to fill in your brow.

“I like to use a slightly lighter color to kind of highlight and blend into my brow,” Mimi said. “So, I’m going to use the Ginza Chai Latte Power Brow Pen and I’m just going to lightly stroke on top. It just really lays the brow hairs in place.”

Light up your eyes

Prep for your eye makeup by dabbing Artistry Studio 2 in 1 Perfecting Primer with the matte finish onto each eyelid.

“Next, it’s time to light up your eyes with Artistry Studio Pacific Proof Shadow Cream,” Mimi said. “I’m going to use L.A. Sunset.”

The natural shade from the new L.A. collection is luminous, Mimi said, so it’s perfect for toned down hues and dewy finishes. Plus, it’s infused with conditioning ingredients like coconut oil, olive oil and mango seed butter.

Mimi suggests dabbing some on the back of your hand and using your finger to pat the shadow cream onto each lid.

Artistry Beauty Squad member Mimi Johnson uses the sponge end of an eyeliner pencil to smudge the line and create a smoldery eye.

Add a smolder

To accentuate the eye without being overpowering, grab your Artistry Signature Color Longwearing Eye Pencil.

Draw a line inside the waterline at the bottom of your eye and follow that with a line on the top lid along the lashes. Use the sponge end of the eye pencil to smudge the top line, creating the perfect accent.

“I love to accentuate my eyes with a quick, smudgy, smoldery eye,” Mimi said.

Lengthen your lashes

Using the Artistry Studio Mascara Base Primer and the Artistry Studio Lash Boosting 3-in-1 Mascara will give you the lushes lashes you’re longing for.

Start with the primer, applying a coat to the top of your lashes and underneath. Follow that up with the lash-boosting mascara, using the multi-faceted brush to lengthen the lashes, lift them and separate.

“This is my favorite mascara, hands down. You get the volume, the lift and separation with this all-in-one easy twist brush,” Mimi said.

Get cheeky and add the glow

Mimi turned to the Artistry Studio Cheek & Lip Duo in Polaris Pink for her cheek color, simply dabbing it onto the apples of her cheeks with her fingers and then blending in. The cream-to-powder formula looks natural on your skin, she said.

Next, grab the Artistry Studio Lights, Camera, Face Stick, a two-in-one highlighter and balm stick that delivers a nude sheen and a glowy finish.

“Apply under your brow and temples to accent and highlight for glowing skin,” Mimi said. “Get extra glowing skin by stroking down the bridge of your nose, on your cheeks and tap on your cupid’s bow.”

After each stroke of shimmer, tap the area lightly with your fingertips to blend.

Red carpet lips

Everything should now be camera ready except for your lips. Grab your favorite bold red lip color. Mimi used the Artistry Studio Light Up Silky Matte Lip Color, which delivers a creamy, high-impact color that glides on.

Use the tip of the applicator to outline your lips, then use the flat edge to fill them in. “The light-up wand and lip-size mirror lets you create perfect matte lips on the go,” Mimi said.

Take a look in the mirror because you now have the perfect natural makeup look with a bold matte lip that works day or night, on the beach or on the boulevard.
